With All of the Side
Effects of Modern Chemical Drugs
It’s Time for All of Us to Rediscover
Nature’s
Pharmacy
For thousands of years, across every continent in the world, plants
have been man’s primary medicine. With the advent
of modern technology, however, most people have abandoned herbal
medicine in favor of modern chemical medicine. People are
told that herbal medicine is primitive, inconsistent, slow-acting,
unreliable and even dangerous. On the other hand, people are
told that modern drugs are advanced, dependable, fast acting, reliable
and carefully tested for safety and efficacy.
Yet consider these facts.
Half of all
drugs released into the marketplace in the past 30-40 years have been
withdrawn from the marketplace within 10 years because of dangerous
side-effects. Americans, who comprise
only 5% of the worlds population, take half of all the drug
prescriptions in the world. Yet, life expectancy in America is 42nd in
the world. And medical mistakes, usually involving these
“safe, reliable drug medicines” are the sixth
leading cause of death in the United States.
On the other side of the coin, herbs are sold by people with very
little training in either medicine or herbalism, and yet, there are
almost no deaths attributed to commercial herbal products and very few
adverse effects. And, if one examines the evidence, in most cases where
a person’s death or serious illness is blamed on herbs, the
evidence that the herb was really to blame in those situations is
usually pretty weak.
Furthermore,
if
herbal medicine appears slow-acting, unreliable or inconsistent, it
usually isn’t the fault of the herbs.
The real
problem is that there are very few well-trained herbalists in America,
so most people using herbs don’t really understand herbalism
very well.
Herbalism is different from modern medicine in two ways. The
first difference is obvious, doctors use single chemical compounds
called drugs and herbalists use whole plants that contain thousands of
chemical compounds. The assumption is that the isolated
chemical is more reliable, more effective and safer than a mixture of
compounds produced by plants that actually vary widely from year to
year. In Nature’s Pharmacy you’ll learn
why that complex mixture of thousands of biological compounds actually
heals the body better than isolated chemicals.
But, there is a second way in which herbalism differs from
modern medicine and that is that herbal medicine is focused on treating
the person, not treating the disease. The reason why many
people using herbs don’t get the kind of fast-acting and
reliable results that herbs are capable of delivering is that they are
trying to use herbs like drugs to treat the disease, instead of using
herbs like traditional herbalists did to treat the person. In
summary:
Modern
Medicine Seeks to Treat Disease
with Isolated “Lifeless” Chemicals
Traditional Herbalism Seeks to Restore Health
with Whole “Living” Plants
There is obviously a big difference in these two paradigms and once you
understand the later, you will start to see that it is vastly superior
in both safety and efficacy.
Of course, the whole CHC program is actually designed to help switch a
person’s mindset from thinking in terms of treating diseases
into thinking about building health, but Nature’s Pharmacy is
specifically devoted to understanding our green plant allies and how
they can help us to heal. It provides a solid understanding
of herbal medicines, how they work and how to use them effectively.
Specifically, Nature’s Pharmacy covers:
- Helps you understand how herbs work by dividing them into
twelve “energetic” categories based on taste,
smell, major constituents and their effects on the human body
- Explains the “doctrine of signatures, ”
that is, how a plant’s taste, smell, shape, color, texture,
form and habitat provide clues to its “medicine
power.”
- The basics of plant chemistry explained in
layman’s terms.
- Detailed profiles of 54 herbs to illustrate the different
energetic categories of herbs
- Key herbs for each of the major body systems
- The language of herbalism—the terms used to
describe the healing actions of herbs and examples of herbs that have
each action.
- A guide to 264 major herbs in modern herbal commerce,
including the 168 herbs that professional herbalists in America rated
the most important herbs to know.
The manual in the Nature’s Pharmacy course is a great
reference book to have on your shelf to look up information
on specific medicinal plants, but the course is much more than an
herbal reference. The DVDs help you see herbs from two
complementary perspectives—the scientific approach based on
plant chemistry and hte energetic approach based on taste and
smell. The audio CDs help the reader understand the real
tradition of herbalism as a philosophy based on life versus the
lifeless system of modern medicine.
To help the student experience this difference directly,
Nature’s Pharmacy includes a sample kit of herbs
that allows you to experience the energetic categories of herbs by
tasting, smelling and feeling the plant materials. This
allows you to understand what herbs are really about in a way that
simply reading about herbs will never allow.
Traditional herbalism recognizes that there is more to life and health
and chemistry. It ackowledges that there is a “life
force” or intellegence within each person that is also found
in all living things. It is this “life
force” that does the healing, not just the chemisry of the
plant. The Nature’s Pharmacy course captures this
difference.
Don’t miss out on the healing riches that Nature’s
Pharmacy provides for every human problem.
